THerapeutic Riding

Commonly Asked questions about Therapeutic Riding

WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC RIDING?

Therapeutic Riding (sometimes referred to as adaptive riding) offers a variety of activities with the equine partner, like handeling and taking care of the horse and of course horseback riding. Tailored to the individual needs of each participant and keeping their medical status in mind, therapeutic riding provides the opportunity to participate in a sport that leads to health benefits. Adapting the horses tack to the riders needs enables people with various challenges to enjoy horseback riding. Some take pleasure in this as a recreational activity while others train to compete in equine sports.

We have seen lots of clients getting involved in therapeutic riding after reaching their goals in the hippotherapy treatment. It´s a great way to stay in touch with the equine friend, still get the positive benefits of the horses movement and contribute to a healthy active lifestyle.

Anyone with minor to medium neurological, sensory, communicative and/or motor skill impairments can benefit from therapeutic riding. HOW CAN I GET STARTED?

The first step is to contact us so we can answer any of your questions specific to your personal situation and help you to determine if therapeutic riding would be an appropriate activity for you. The second step would be to arrange a home visit. The purpose of a home visit is to get to know you and your personal goals in your every day life setting. During this time we also assess any adaptive equipment that would be required to support the development of your full potential.

After our first meeting, we continue with the session at the riding center Lützelsoon, Hennweiler.
